Women in Manufacturing are like diamonds in the rough.
We are precious jewels seeking Gender Equity in Manufacturing. (GEMs) Although we may start as rough stone, we at BWiM are here to help you become a facet GEM.
We are an organization empowering black and brown women at all levels of manufacturing to develop their natural abilities to their fullest potential and equip them to excel as diHERse leaders in their workplace and communities across all spheres of society.
Cultivating GEMs, typically involves fostering a positive and proactive approach to work, business, or personal development. Here are three ways to cultivate a GEM:
Women of Color Should
1. Encourage a Growth Mindset:
Emphasize the importance of continuous learning, improvement, and resilience. Encourage employees or yourself to embrace challenges, learn from feedback, and see failures as opportunities for growth. Offer training and development opportunities to support this mindset, and celebrate efforts as well as achievements for one another
2. Foster Ownership and Initiative:
Encourage women of color to take ownership of their work, projects, or areas of responsibility. This could involve giving them autonomy to make decisions, allowing them to take on new challenges, and empowering them to generate and implement their ideas. Encouraging initiative can lead to greater engagement, creativity, and problem-solving.
3. Promote a Positive and Supportive Environment:
Create a workplace culture that values positivity, collaboration, and support. Recognize and reward effort and achievements, and promote open communication and teamwork. Encourage a healthy work-life balance and provide support for mental and physical well-being.
There are many reasons why black and brown women are needed in executive positions, but here are three key reasons:
1. Diverse Perspectives: Black and brown women bring unique and diverse perspectives to the table due to their experiences and backgrounds. This diversity of thought can lead to more innovative solutions, better decision-making, and a deeper understanding of diverse consumer and employee needs.
2. Representation and Role Modeling: Having black and brown women in executive positions provides representation for other women of color and serves as a powerful form of role modeling. When women see others who look like them in leadership roles, it can inspire and motivate them to pursue similar career paths, leading to greater diversity in the talent pipeline.
3. Addressing Inequality: Black and brown women often face systemic barriers to career advancement, including biases and discrimination. By promoting and supporting black and brown women in executive positions, organizations can help address these inequalities and work toward creating more equitable and inclusive workplaces.
Overall, promoting diversity and inclusion in executive positions benefits organizations by fostering creativity, improving decision-making, and better reflecting the diverse communities they serve.
